Faith and Focus: Weekly Look at Life Behind the Lens with Heather Corbin-

Spring has arrived, and with it comes the deep urge to refresh, renew, and embrace the beauty of this season.

Refreshing Our Outdoor Space

This past weekend, I gave our screened-in back porch the cleaning it so desperately needed. Armed with our trusty shop vac and a bucket of soapy water, I went to work.

Dust swirled, winter’s leftovers were swept away, and soon, the space was transformed. The furniture, once covered in a thick layer of grime, now sparkled in the sunshine.

It’s ready—ready for morning coffee, warm evening conversations, and the sound of the wind rustling through the trees.

The Power of Dirt Therapy

And oh, has it been windy! The kind of wind that rattles the windows and sends the birds into a frenzy.

We’ve had a few storms roll through, but thankfully, nothing more than a few scattered branches and the loss of a couple of my bird feeders. A small price to pay for the drama of spring’s arrival.

With the warmth breaking through the gray, I couldn’t resist the call of the garden center. Pansies came home with me this week—delicate, cheerful little things.

As soon as I dug my fingers into the soil, I felt it—that deep, soul-filling joy that only “dirt therapy” can bring. There’s something about the feel of the earth in my hands, the scent of damp soil, and the simple act of planting life that restores me.

My pots are now filled with color, a reminder that new seasons bring new beginnings.

Unexpected Blessings: A Blooming Christmas Cactus

Inside, my Christmas cactus decided to surprise me yet again. For the third time this year, it burst into bloom! Three times! If that isn’t a little love note from God, I don’t know what is. Every time I pass it, I smile—such a small, unexpected blessing that brings so much joy.

Family Update: Trusting God Through the Journey

Last week, I shared the incredible news that Wes was HOME after a month of leukemia treatment in Indianapolis. Our hearts were full, and we had planned a long-awaited family dinner for Friday. But life had other plans.

Late Friday morning, Wes spiked a fever and had to be readmitted to the hospital. Instead of disappointment, we chose celebration. That fever, we believe, was a sign of Car T Cell expansion—his body multiplying the very cells that are working to destroy his leukemia. What a reason to give thanks!

We continue to pray fervently, believing in complete healing, trusting in God’s hand over his life.

By Monday, he was released, and I had the privilege of picking him up from the hospital. Anna had an appointment that afternoon, so I stepped in to bring him home, a simple act that filled my heart.

Those moments—just me and my son—were precious. Oh, how I love time with my “kids”!!

Quality Time with My Husband

On Tuesday, I spent the entire day with Chris!

He had business meetings a few hours away, and I jumped at the chance to ride along. Hours in the truck, side by side, just talking, just being together.

It was simple, but it was good. Chris’ love language is quality time, and while life keeps us both busy, I know that moments like these matter. He is such a hardworking, deeply loving man, always quick with a joke, always steady. I am grateful beyond words for him.

Beginning the Day with Praise

One of the ways God speaks to me most often is through song. Nine times out of ten, I wake up with a worship song playing in my mind. It’s a gift from the Holy Spirit, a gentle nudge to start my day in praise.

Psalm 118:24: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

What a reminder to begin the day with gratitude, with joy, with the knowledge that each sunrise is a new opportunity to glorify God.

Wedding & Graduation Photography Season Begins

And speaking of new seasons—wedding season officially starts this Saturday! Purdue cap and gown sessions begin Sunday.

My heart is full knowing that in the coming weeks, I’ll be capturing some of life’s most significant moments. The laughter, the tears, the quiet in-between moments that pass too quickly.

What an honor it is to freeze time, to preserve these precious memories for people to enjoy for years to com.

Living with Intention & Joy

At the heart of it all, I come back to this: life is a treasure.

Each day is a gift.

Since 2010, a sign has rested in my kitchen that reads, “Enjoy this moment, for this is your life.”

I want to live that way—to embrace the beauty of today, to hold onto the little joys, to walk in gratitude for the time we are given.

A Prayer for Joyful Living

Lord, thank You for the gift of life.

Thank You for spring and all the reminders of renewal that come with it.

Help us to embrace today—to live fully, love deeply, and walk in Your joy.

Teach us to treasure the moments, both big and small, and to live with intention.

May we always remember that THIS is the day You have made, and may we rejoice in it.

In Jesus name, Amen
