5 Reasons to do a “First Look” on your Wedding Day | Lafayette Indiana Photographer

First of all- What is a “First Look”?

A first look is a private moment together when the bride and groom can see each other for the first time on their wedding day. It is a private special moment shared by the two of them without all the eyes of all the guests on them. A first look is a time for the bride and groom to have a moment to share just between the two of them.

To do, or not to do, a first look is a big decision!

There are pros and cons to each way - this post should shed some light on the pros of doing a first look.

5 great reasons a first look can be a fabulous choice on your wedding day.

  1. First Looks give the bride and groom a quite moment together.  Wedding days are busy and full of lots of people.  Without a first look a bride and groom can go the entire day without hardly a minute of time just the two of them.  The first look gives a couple a chance to connect with one another and relish in their day and why it is happening in the first place! When I photograph a first look I always use my zoom lens so that I can stand back and away and allow the bride and groom to be in their own private space.  This is a special moment to be enjoyed by the couple, not intruded upon by a photographer!

  2. First Looks calm nerves!  I’ve never met a bride or groom that isn’t nervous but once the first look takes place they both relax!  They are together and that is what the day is all about!  Couples that choose a first look have a lot less “butterflies” and are more fully able to enjoy the day.

  3. First looks give a bride and groom the opportunity to read to each other private vows, letters or to pray over each other.  These are incredibly tender moments to share with each other- moments just for the two of you not for all the eyes at the ceremony.

  4. First looks allow for the pictures to be done before the ceremony so that they aren’t as rushed after and you can get to your reception quicker!  Once the ceremony is done you will want to get family pictures completed and get on to your reception. When you do a first look we take care of the couple pictures and all the bridal party pictures before the ceremony.

  5. Food!  When you do a first look you can share lunch together before the ceremony.  Sometimes if couples don’t do first looks they are too nervous to eat- and can go all day without food!  Not good!  Enjoy a quick meal together and don’t go into the ceremony hungry!
