Faith & Focus: Life Behind the Lens

Life in the Kitchen: Baking & Cooking Joy

As a Lafayette, Indiana photographer, I find joy not only behind the lens but also in the kitchen. Cooking and baking are my creative outlets and a wonderful stress reliever.

Over the weekend, I baked up another quadruple batch of my favorite fresh sourdough bread using Kate’s Soft Sourdough Master Recipe. I bake this every few weeks and freeze it. I am gluten intolerant, but I can do sourdough! With some of the bread I made up a batch of sourdough croutons to enjoy on my salads.

In fact, I enjoy sourdough so much that I actually have an Etsy Shop where I sell dehydrated starter. “Caroline” is the name of my sourdough starter that came from my sweet friend, Sarah. Caroline is the most robust and vibrant starter and produces incredible bread!

I also made Kate’s Monster Cookies, but instead of cookies, I baked them as bars—quick, easy, and just as tasty! These are also gluten free and I add in protein powder for a bit of a protein boost (can I eat them for breakfast this way?). LOL!

For meal prep, I made homemade muesli and a big batch of high-protein, low-sugar muffins using Kodiak Protein Pancake mix—perfect for my family’s lunches. I also tapped into my “prepper” side and used dehydrated eggs I had stashed away in the freezer from two summers ago. With egg prices soaring, using rehydrated eggs is a fantastic cost-saving option. When prices come down, I’ll be restocking my supply!

Indiana Weather & Signs of Spring

Spring is trying to break through, but Indiana has been moody as ever! This week alone, we’ve seen thunderstorms, snow flurries, warm 70-degree days, and freezing 30-degree nights. The wind has been relentless! Despite the crazy weather, flower bulbs are emerging, and my lilac bushes are starting to leaf out. As a summer-loving gal, I am thrilled for the warmer days ahead!

Family & Faith: Prayer for Healing

This week has been challenging. My husband has been battling a sinus infection, so we’ve stayed home instead of visiting our son Wes and his wife, Anna, in Indianapolis. We didn’t want to risk any germ spreading since Wes’ immune system is very low due to treatment.

Great news! Wes received his second dose of CAR T cells this week, and we are praying that these modified T-cells take orders from their Commander in Chief—our Lord and Great Physician.

Please join us in prayer that these cells multiply, live long, and destroy every cancer cell in Wes’ body now and forever. Healing in Jesus’ name! You can follow his journey on his Caring Bridge site. Wesley is looking better than he has in weeks!! Thank you, Jesus!

This week I’ve been praying through song—something that is a big part of my life and something I find incredibly helpful. One song on repeat for me right now is “Tear Off the Roof” by Brandon Lake. Have you ever used worship music to pray? It’s incredibly powerful! I also lean on the Psalms, using scripture as a foundation for my prayers. Praying God’s Word is the most powerful way to pray! Psalms 62 is full of verses that I use in prayer.

Celebrating Life & Family Connections

Homemade HIGH protein, low sugar, ice cream!

This week, we celebrated my husband’s birthday! Birthdays are a reminder of the precious gift of life, and I never take them for granted.

We also enjoyed FaceTime calls with our daughter, Robyn, and our grandson, Brecken, who live in Texas, as well as with our son, Nate, who is actively serving in the Air Force. Being a wife and mother are my greatest joys!

Photography in Lafayette, Indiana: Gearing Up for Wedding & Graduation Season

It’s been a quieter photography week, but I’m embracing the calm before the “storm”!

Wedding season kicks off the first week of April, and I couldn’t be more excited. I love capturing love stories for faith-based couples as a Christian wedding photographer in Lafayette, Indiana. April is also packed with Purdue cap and gown graduation sessions, and I can’t wait to document these milestone moments!

If you or someone you know is graduating from Purdue University, be sure to check out my latest blog post: “Purdue Graduation Photos: Tips for the Best Cap & Gown Session.”

I was so encouraged by the positive feedback from last week’s Faith & Focus blog post. I received text messages and in-person encouragement that truly touched my heart. Thank you for following along!

Final Thoughts and a Prayer

My life is a blend of faith, family, and photography.

Whether I’m capturing love stories, baking in the kitchen, or spending time with my loved ones, I strive to find beauty in everyday moments.

Thank you for being here—I appreciate each and every one of you!

Until next time, may your days be filled with faith, focus, and the beauty of life’s simple moments. Blessings, friends!

A Prayer for Trust & Strength in Uncertain Times- Pray this over your life!

Heavenly Father,

My soul finds rest in You alone. You are my rock, my salvation, my fortress—I will not be shaken. When life feels overwhelming, when uncertainty presses in, remind me that my hope is secure in You.

Lord, You are my refuge, my safe place in every storm. When my heart is heavy, I pour it out before You, knowing You hear my every cry, see my every tear, and hold every moment in Your hands. You are a God of steadfast love and unshakable strength.

Teach me to wait in stillness, to trust in Your perfect timing. Help me release fear, anxiety, and doubt, anchoring my heart in the truth that You are in control. My hope is not in circumstances or outcomes, but in You alone.

For every burden I carry today, I lay it at Your feet. Strengthen me when I feel weak, guide me when I feel lost, and fill me with peace when my heart is troubled. Be my refuge, my confidence, and my source of unshakable joy.

Father, You are my rock, my fortress, my firm foundation. No matter what comes, I choose to trust in Your goodness and rest in Your love. You are faithful, and I put my hope in You alone.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

💛
